About the College
ACEM is the not-for-profit organisation responsible for training emergency physicians and advancing professional standards in emergency medicine in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College has over 4600 members and more than 3200 trainees enrolled in its training programs. ACEM’s mission is to promote excellence in the delivery of quality emergency care to all communities through the expertise and commitment of its members.
The College is governed by a ten-person Board, whose members serve as the Directors of the organisation. The Equity and Inclusion Committee is an entity of the ACEM Board and leads the College’s efforts to create a pro-equity, anti-discriminatory, and anti-racist emergency medicine community where all people feel valued, respected, and able to belong and contribute. Participation provides individuals with an opportunity to bring their expertise, passion, and lived experience to improve emergency medicine for the benefit of everyone.
About the role
The Equity and Inclusion Committee advances its aims by embedding equity and anti-racism across ACEM, guiding and monitoring equity action plans, advising governing bodies, producing a triennial Governance Diversity Report and promoting equity knowledge through events at the Annual Scientific Meeting. In doing so, it ensures ACEM leads by example and models best practice in diversity, equity and inclusion within emergency medicine. Further information about the role of the Equity and Inclusion Committee is provided in the associated terms of reference.
Community members play a key role in guiding the Equity and Inclusion Committee to better address the needs of diverse communities and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of equity, inclusion and cultural safety within emergency medicine.
Up to three (3) community members may be appointed to the Equity and Inclusion Committee by the ACEM Board, in accordance with the Policy on the Appointment and Remuneration of Community Members (COR498). Community members are selected for their lived experience and/or recognised expertise in areas relevant to the Equity and Inclusion Committee’s work, which may include disability, neurodivergence, culturally and/or racially non-dominant backgrounds, and LGBTQIA+ITSB identities. At least one (1) community member must have lived experience, ensuring the Committee benefits from first-hand perspectives that can inform decision-making, enhance inclusivity, and strengthen the relevance and impact of its advice and initiatives.
Applications that reflect the diversity of ACEM’s membership are strongly encouraged. Where applicable, appointments will be made with consideration to ensuring this diversity is represented within the membership of the Equity and Inclusion Committee.
Applications must be received by the College not later than 9:00am (AEST) on Monday 29 September 2025.
