Guidelines for Safe Care of Patients Sedated for Acute Behavioural Dis

ACEM has endorsed these Guidelines, which were developed by ANZCA with contributions by FACEMs. The Guidelines focus on sedation in a range of a settings. While there are necessarily variations in practice between those settings and the ED, the principles of care are applicable. Practitioners must also comply with relevant legislation.

ACEM has endorsed these Guidelines, developed by ANZCA with contribution by FACEMs. They apply wherever sedation and/or analgesia for diagnostic and interventional medical, dental and surgical procedures is used (excludes longer term management). While there are variations in practice in the ED, the principles of care are applicable.

ACEM is supportive of the Victorian candour and open disclosure guidelines proposals. The fundamental purpose of both a statutory duty of candour and the standard practice of open disclosure is to foster an open and honest culture in services and to improve the quality of care, particularly in terms of safety and person-centeredness.
