A free simulation and skills-based day of education and conversation for parents returning to work in Emergency Medicine after a period of parental leave.

This course is for PGY 3 to Consultants who are returning to work in an emergency department within the next six months.

It is an opportunity to:

  • Meet and talk with Emergency Doctors who have previously or are currently transitioning back into Emergency Medicine after a period of parental leave
  • Refresh some of the skills used in emergency departments on a daily basis
  • Participate in hands-on skills and simulation-based sessions to refresh communication andtechnical skills
  • Virtual Participation for those who are unable to attend

Program

  • 9.00–9.15: Welcome and introduction
  • 9.15–10.45: ECG/ Radiology/ ABG Refresher 
  • 10.45–11.10: Morning tea
  • 11.10–1.15: Skills stations (5 x 25-minute sessions)
    • Station A: Basic and advanced airway
    • Station B: Surgical airway
    • Station C: Chest drains
    • Station D: Vascular access (including U/S guidance)
    • Station E: EFAST
  • 1.15–14.00: Lunch
  • 14.00–14.45: Simulation 1
  • 14.45–15:30 Simulation 2
  • 15.30–15.50: Afternoon tea
  • 15.50–16.35: Simulation 3
  • 16.35–17.00: Panel discussion: Returning to work – tips for success.
  • 17:00 onwards: Networking. Details of social event to follow (optional).
