Decisions regarding the type of therapy and where it is provided should balance the potential for patient benefit and the risk of cross-infection of others.

Treatment is based on the following principles.

  • Respiratory support to maintain adequate oxygenation.
  • Specific agents including antiviral drugs and and therapies directed against the inflammatory response.
  • Supportive care including identification and management of complications

  • Assess severity and potential for deterioration

  • Use of high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) and Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)
