Joy has served as a community member on ACEM’s “Assessment of Specialist International Medical Graduates” panel since 2017.
Joy is a lifelong resident of Papatoetoe in diverse South Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. She firmly believes in using her skills and experience to make a contribution to the community.
Joy has spent considerable time being the support person for relatives, neighbours and friends at local Middlemore Hospital’s accident and emergency department, and at after hours emergency doctor’s clinics.
Joy works full time as a local government town planner (as Joy LaNauze), planning for the future of Auckland. She has over 30 years of professional planning experience, holds a Bachelor of Town Planning degree from the University of Auckland, and is a member of the New Zealand Planning Institute.
Joy’s community involvement has included youth leadership, church membership roles, being a foundation trustee of the Papatoetoe Railway Station Preservation Trust, assisting for over 10 years with the annual Papatoetoe Santa Parade (Auckland’s biggest community Santa Parade), junior soccer team management, six years of service on the Papatoetoe High School Board of Trustees, and serving on the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners’ Consumer Liaison Committee (from 2004 to 2010, becoming its Chair).
Joy also enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, travel, theatre, music, and reading.
