A clear concern in emergency departments across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand is not just the health and well-being of patients, but the health and well-being of emergency medicine physicians and trainees.
The Committee Experience Program (CEP) provides all members and trainees with an opportunity to experience what it is like to join a committee, by allowing them to take part as a non-voting member, attend meetings and join the discussion, and see how involvement can shape the future of emergency medicine.
As part of the College’s commitment to enhancing emergency care across all regions of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, ACEM is introducing a regional, rural and remote training requirement for all trainees who commence the FACEM Training Program from 2027.
ACEM endorses that all ED healthcare workers (HCW) ensure that patients are not exposed to blood borne viruses (BBV). While exposure prone procedures (EPP) increase the risk of BBV transmission between HCWs and patients, EPPs are rarely performed in EDs. ACEM does not recommend regular routine testing of all ED HCWs for BBVs.
