ACEM believes that emergency medicine has important and unique roles and responsibilities in the advancement of public health. Emergency medicine has significant overlays with public health, particularly in three key areas: health protection, health promotion, and Emergency Management and Disaster Response.

Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction

ACEM response (05 June 2018) regarding the Mental Health and Addiction Inquiry. The purpose of the Inquiry was to identify unmet needs and develop recommendations for a better mental health and addiction system. This sets a clear direction for the next five to ten years for Government, health sectors, and communities to progress.

Inquiry into Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

ACEM’s comments to the Australian Government for reforms that deliver timely access to appropriate mental health care, with immediate focus on after-hours care as a viable alternative to EDs. The next National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan must include priority actions to reduce the reliance of mental health patients on EDs.
