The webinar will explore sedation in paediatric emergency departments, with an expert speaker who will cover all aspects of the practice, including:

  • The current ’state of play’ – What people are generally doing for sedation i.e. which agents, routes and indications. 
  • Special populations – The very young, those with comorbidities and neurodiversity as well as behavioural emergencies 
  • The direction of travel – What are the emerging agents and practice? What are we likely to be doing in five or ten-years’ time?

Part of this talk will also discuss dexmedetomidine, which is being increasingly used throughout Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand emergency departments.

What to expect

A deepening of your understanding of the options available when sedating children in the emergency department and the pros and cons of each option. The webinar will also address the questions that people are asking on the ACEM PEM Network forum with regards to the use of dexmedetomidine.

We will end the webinar with the opportunity to connect with the ACEM PEM Network Executive in a Q&A session chaired by Dr Michelle Davison.
