This year, the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine turns forty.
There is no doubt that the way we practise and the skills we need are quite different to those required when the College was founded. Emergency physicians can now choose from a broad range of career options and emergency care is delivered in a variety of settings. Emergency departments increasingly serve as the safety net for healthcare and social systems under pressure.

The College convened this summit to start internal conversations about what is, and should be, core to emergency medicine practice. The meeting will centre on three themes:
- Changing processes and models-of-care
- Changing peoples and populations
- Changing roles and contexts
Via livestream, ACEM members and trainees were invited to join College Board Members, Councillors and Chairs of committees, networks and working groups to discuss some of the challenges and opportunities faced by our College, and our specialty.
As members and trainees of the College, we recognise your contributions to the specialty, acknowledge your experiences, and value your insights. We are grateful to all who were able to participate in this critical conversation. Discussions at the summit, including questions and comments submitted online, will be used to inform future reviews of training curriculum and CPD content, as well as assist the College Board and Councils with strategic priority-setting and planning.
