The award is named in honour of Dr Chris Curry in acknowledgement of his instrumental efforts in establishing Emergency Medicine in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Dr Chris Curry spent prolonged periods in Port Moresby negotiating with government and UPNG to develop the MMed(EM) program. He provided the inspiration and mentorship for the early pioneers of emergency medicine in PNG.
