Guidelines on Management of Respiratory Disease Outbreaks

These guidelines will help all ED staff manage severe seasonal and pandemic influenza and other emerging respiratory illness, providing operational advice to help minimize the community impact of pandemic influenza and respiratory illness. EDs play a vital role as part of a system-wide approach to the management of pandemic influenza.

Imaging

We recommend the use of imaging when required for exclusion of other pathology from the differential diagnosis; when required to identify the cause of sudden deterioration in a patient; portable chest radiography preferentially over patient movement to radiology where possible. Consultation on the Controlled Substances (Poisons) (Miscellaneous) Va

Amendments were proposed to the Controlled Substances (Poisons) Regulations 2011 to mandate the use of ScriptCheckSA, South Australia’s Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) system. ACEM was broadly supportive of the change but highlighted system capability issues will hamper further implementation.
