Statement on the Role of Private Hospital EDs

ACEM recognises that private EDs are important components of acute health care systems and are an additional resource. Private EDs can take a consistent and growing number of patients to assist public EDs to cope with increasing demand pressures. Private EDs can increase jurisdictional capacity during major incident and disaster response.

Policy on Endorsement of Research Projects

This policy outlines criteria used by the Research Committee in determining whether or not a research proposal is suitable for ACEM endorsement. It applies to applicants and ACEM Fellows acting in an official capacity on behalf of the College as members of the ACEM Research Committee, the ACEM CTN Executive, and the ACEM EDEN Executive.

Statement on Exposure Prone Procedures in the Emergency Department

ACEM endorses that all ED healthcare workers (HCW) ensure that patients are not exposed to blood borne viruses (BBV). While exposure prone procedures (EPP) increase the risk of BBV transmission between HCWs and patients, EPPs are rarely performed in EDs. ACEM does not recommend regular routine testing of all ED HCWs for BBVs.
