ACEM Submission on the Treaty of Waitangi Principles Bill

The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM; the College) offers the following submission to the Justice Committee regarding the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill.

Stroke Clot Retrieval (SCR) Action Plan

ACEM supportive of transferring patients out of EDs into specialist care as soon as clinically appropriate. ACEM identifies resourcing as a potential issue within the Plan and noted that in the Action Plan’s cost analysis, the opportunity cost of not treating other patients due to resourcing stroke clot retrieval has not been determined.

Consultation on the Controlled Substances (Poisons) (Miscellaneous) Va

Amendments were proposed to the Controlled Substances (Poisons) Regulations 2011 to mandate the use of ScriptCheckSA, South Australia’s Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) system. ACEM was broadly supportive of the change but highlighted system capability issues will hamper further implementation.

Review of Takeaway Licence Conditions in Alice Springs

Feedback to Northern Territory Liquor Commission on the Review of Takeaway Licence Conditions in Alice Springs. Suggested reduction of availability by shortened trading hours, proposals to cap takeaway sales from licensed grocery stores, to trial the Cardiff Model for Violence Prevention and the establishment of a ‘last drinks survey’.
