Climate Change National Framework - Adaptation & Mitigation Bill 2020

ACEM support a National Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Framework as proposed by the Climate Change Bill 2020. The Bill has called for the establishment of a National Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Framework and creation of the Climate Change Commission. It also calls for a Climate Change Risk Assessment for Australia.

Guidelines on Sedation for Diagnostic & Interventional Procedures

ACEM has endorsed these Guidelines, developed by ANZCA with contribution by FACEMs. They apply wherever sedation and/or analgesia for diagnostic and interventional medical, dental and surgical procedures is used (excludes longer term management). While there are variations in practice in the ED, the principles of care are applicable.

Choosing Wisely: Pharmacy Recommendations August 2020

ACEM confirmed support for the Choosing Wisely Pharmacy Recommendations with comments around in-pharmacy opportunistic diagnostic testing, the process around dispensing of regular opioids and additional guidance and training for pharmacists or other healthcare professionals regarding the use of complementary and alternative medicines.

National Injury Prevention 2020 - 2030

ACEM is supportive of the National Injury Prevention Strategy with recommendations to promote further research to inform best practice and culturally appropriate interventions. There is a need for cohesive relationships between EDs, transport, and infrastructure are all essential in reducing the burden of injury from road trauma.

NZ: COVID-19 Mental Wellbeing Recovery Plan

ACEM was supportive of the Plan principles but had concerns EDs were not recognised as a key part of the Government’s response to the mental health impacts of the pandemic. Recommendations to address out of hours access block, delivery and monitoring, strengthen data across NZ and increase clinical engagement for frontline staff.
