Rural Health Action Plan 2025-2027

ACEM is pleased to launch the second iteration of our Rural Health Action Plan (RuHAP). This RuHAP marks another significant step in our ongoing commitment to regional, rural and remote emergency medicine, as well as our commitment to rural health equity.

Quality Standards and Toolkit

The Quality Standards and associated toolkit provide guidance and set expectations for the provision of equitable, safe, and high-quality emergency care in EDs and other hospital-based emergency care services.

National Program

The National Program aims to address some of the big challenges facing emergency medical care across Australia, including improving the quality and distribution of the future emergency medicine workforce. It includes a range of projects, facilitated by ACEM and funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health’s Specialist Training Program.

Better Mental Health in Rural EDs

The Mental Health in Rural Emergency Departments (MHrED) project is a dedicated website offering guidelines, articles, tools, and resources to help rural emergency care professionals build competence and confidence in assessing and managing patients presenting with mental health issues in RRR areas.

Digital Learning Resources

The mini digital learning resources in this course are designed to progress the knowledge and skills of trainees, ACEM members and other health professionals for the practice of RRR emergency medicine in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

State of Emergency Report: Regional, Rural and Remote

ACEM’s State of Emergency report presents the numbers behind the crisis in the acute health system and provides careful analysis of concrete data gathered from each of Australia’s states and territories.

Emergency Medicine Education and Training (EMET)

Emergency Medicine Education and Training (EMET) provides education, training and supervision to doctors and other health professionals working in emergency departments and emergency care services – particularly in rural, regional and remote Australia – who are not specifically trained in emergency medical care.
