College Budgets
The ACEM Board recognises the need for transparency in financial matters, particularly with respect to College fees and charges. To help our members better understand the sources of College income and how income is expended, the accompanying charts show a breakdown of budgeted income and expenditure for the upcoming financial year.
The College Budget Process
The College sets its budget on a financial year basis, running July to June. Budgets are developed with consideration to the ongoing provision and refinement of core College education and training activities, as well as new initiatives and necessary capital expenditure. As part of the annual budgeting process, membership subscriptions and other fees are reviewed. The College estimates expenditure associated with providing functions for Fellows, other members, trainees and SIMGs on a financial year basis. Once estimated expenditure has been derived, fees are set in consideration to the funds required to enable a cost-recovery basis for each area of the College.
Budgets are created in consultation with internal stakeholders such as Executive Directors, Managers and staff as well as with external stakeholders such as Committees. Once a budget has been created the College’s Finance and Risk Committee considers the budget before it is recommended to the Board for consideration and ratification.
2019 budget
*Please note, an earlier version of the expenditure graph was mislabeled. This has been updated.
The College’s budgeting process has recently been undertaken for the 2018-2019 financial year. In addition to the ongoing provision of high quality education, training and assessment, some of the major activities being undertaken by the College include:
- Responding to Discrimination, Bullying and Sexual Harassment in Emergency Medicine.
- Increased collaboration with jurisdictions in relation to local and bi-national Emergency Medicine workforce issues, including future workforce planning.
- Increased media, communications and event support, including greater dedicated resources to assist Faculties to respond in a timely and impactful fashion to local issues.
- Review of the structure and requirements of the FACEM Training Program to ensure it is implemented and functions in a manner that meets the needs of trainees, trainers, jurisdictions and the community.
- Evaluation of the ACEM Curriculum Framework to ensure it remains fit for purpose.
- Redevelopment of existing education offerings for members and trainees, and the development of increased educational resources, including those that can be delivered either on-line through a range of devices, or face-to-face, as most appropriate.
- Development of a Diploma in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine in collaboration with other specialist colleges.
- The introduction of a quarterly ACEM Magazine.
- The convening of a multi-stakeholder Mental Health Summit.
- Electronic marking and recording of OSCEs.
Fellows, trainees and other members are encouraged to contact the College if they have any queries in relation to College finances.
