To be eligible, Community Members on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Development Group must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Individuals must not be a College member, must not be enrolled in an ACEM training program, and must not be otherwise ineligible under College regulations or the ACEM Constitution. ACEM Community Members who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander currently serving on a College entity are eligible to apply.

About the College
ACEM is the not-for-profit organisation responsible for training emergency physicians and advancing professional standards in emergency medicine in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College has over 4600 members and more than 3200 trainees enrolled in its training programs. ACEM’s mission is to promote excellence in the delivery of quality emergency care to all communities through the expertise and commitment of its members.
The College is governed by a ten-person Board, whose members serve as the Directors of the organisation. The Aboriginal and Torrs Strait Islander Health Strategy Development Group will provide progress updates to the Indigenous Health Committee, an entity of the ACEM Board.
Purpose and scope
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Development Group has been created to develop ACEM’s first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy for Emergency Medicine (the Strategy) ensuring it is community-led, culturally responsive, and aligned with the ACEM Strategy 2025-2030
Membership
Up to four (4) Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community representatives.

Meetings will open and close with cultural ceremony or practice and a yarning approach will be used alongside formal agenda ideas.
The Strategy Development Group shall meet at least four (4) times per year or as required to progress the Strategy. One of these meetings shall be held in person, and the remainder by videoconference. Travel and accommodation expenses for attending in person meetings are covered by the College.
Community Members receive remuneration for their participation in meetings as set out in the Policy on the Appointment and Remuneration of Community Members (COR498). This remuneration recognises the important role Community Members play in providing lived experience and/or specialist knowledge to inform the work of the Strategy Development Group and support the College’s objectives.
