ACEM endorses that all ED healthcare workers (HCW) ensure that patients are not exposed to blood borne viruses (BBV). While exposure prone procedures (EPP) increase the risk of BBV transmission between HCWs and patients, EPPs are rarely performed in EDs. ACEM does not recommend regular routine testing of all ED HCWs for BBVs.
This guideline details the clinical descriptors for each of the five ATS categories, and describes the overarching principles and minimum standards for the implementation of the ATS.
