ACEM supports initiatives and actions that maintain or improve patient outcomes and facilitate resource stewardship through the promotion of sustainable resource allocation and disinvestment from ineffective interventions or practices. ACEM also supports initiatives that decrease variation in clinical practice and clinical policies.

This Policy aims to promote discussion and awareness of end-of-life care (EoLC) planning, and to ensure that emergency department (ED) staff are confident in providing quality EoLC. The Policy also describes ED systems and processes for recognising and appropriately caring for patients at the end of life (EoL).

This Policy stablishes minimum standards in the provision of services to children and young persons who attend EDs. These standards relate primarily to the structure, function and services provided by EDs situated within hospitals which have a separate paediatric ward with dedicated paediatric resident staff and paediatricians on staff.
