ACEM endorses that all ED healthcare workers (HCW) ensure that patients are not exposed to blood borne viruses (BBV). While exposure prone procedures (EPP) increase the risk of BBV transmission between HCWs and patients, EPPs are rarely performed in EDs. ACEM does not recommend regular routine testing of all ED HCWs for BBVs.

Training must be undertaken at sites that have been accredited by the CCPHRM to provide Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine training in either pre-hospital medicine or retrieval medicine or both.
