FACEM Dr Alex Markwell will help drive positive change for the health system and patients in Queensland, after being appointed the new Chair of the Queensland Clinical Senate.
The Queensland Clinical Senate represents clinicians from across the health system and provides strategic advice and leadership on system-wide issues affecting the quality, affordability and efficient delivery of patient care within Queensland. It connects clinicians to improve care.
The Senate functions under the authority of the Director-General, Queensland Health.
“It is a great opportunity to continue to promote the excellent work being undertaken by clinicians throughout the state, and to collaboratively develop new initiatives to improve patient care,” Dr Markwell said.
Dr Markwell is a Senior Staff Specialist Emergency Physician at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Co-Director Emergency Medicine Training.
Dr Markwell takes over from FACEM Dr David Rosengren, who has completed two terms as Chair.
“For six years under David’s leadership the Senate has gone from strength to strength, and we have seen real improvements in the way clinicians have delivered care and better outcomes for their patients,” Dr Markwell.
“I look forward to building on his achievements.”
ACEM President Dr Simon Judkins said: “It is great to see another example of FACEMs making a difference and taking on a significant role at a state level.
“Well deserved and congratulations, Alex.”
