The Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) 2026 Event Working Group invites Fellows and trainees to submit applications to be included in a dedicated Clinical Case Studies session as a part of the Scientific Program.
The Clinical Case Studies session will take place on Tuesday 24 November 1.30pm – 3pm and will feature eight Case Studies from across Australia and New Zealand. Selected presenters will share their case in a fast paced, high impact format designed to highlight practical lessons and stimulate discussion.
Because of the limited opportunity for presentations during this session, submission of an application does not guarantee inclusion.
Presentation Format
- 7-minute presentation
- 3-minute peer discussion amongst attendees
- Maximum 5 slides (template to be provided upon acceptance)
You should aim for an engaging, practical, interactive and clinically focused presentation style. Extensive literature reviews are discouraged.
Submission Requirements
- Case Title (max 20 words)
- Case Summary (max 300 words): presentation, investigations, diagnosis, management, learning points.
- Why This Case Matters (max 150 words).
- Supporting material such as video clips and imaging may be included.
- The person submitting this application must be the person intending to present the case in the program.
How applications are reviewed and selected
Applications are assessed by a select few members of our working group and are looking for cases that changed practice, highlight important diagnostic lessons, demonstrate cognitive bias, showcase clinical reasoning, teamwork, ultrasound, rural and remote challenges, patient safety issues, or important pitfalls.
Cases will be selected based on:
- Educational value
- Relevance to emergency medicine
- Strength of clinical lessons
- Audience interest and novelty
Please note: educational impact is considered more important than rarity.
As part of this process, we may:
- Accept a submission as proposed
- Offer a modified suggestion for theme or topic
- Decline the submission if it does not align with the overall program vision
Submitters will have the opportunity to accept or decline any modified offer.
Important governance as an ACEM-branded event:
- All sessions and speakers representing ACEM are subject to review and approval by the ACEM Events Steering Group (ESG)
- Speaker line-ups must align with ACEM’s gender and cultural diversity expectations
- Submitters are responsible for ensuring proposed speakers meet these requirements
Diversity and Inclusion
We welcome applications from all members of the ACEM community: Aboriginal people and/or Torres Strait Islanders, Māori, practitioners from rural and metropolitan emergency departments, people with lived experience of non-dominant gender identities and sexualities, disability and neurodivergence, migration and other international education, training and clinical practice, and non-dominant cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds. We aim to represent all of ACEM at this event.
