The Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ/Council) is forming a stakeholder advisory group, to consider issues and provide recommendations on how to strengthen recertification for vocationally registered doctors. The Council’s aim is to ensure that recertification programs for doctors are robust, help assure the public that the doctor is competent and fit to practise, and improve the standards of practice.

The Council has stated it is “aware of the need to avoid, where possible, additional work or costs for the profession.”

Consultation across the profession began in 2016, and will continue by way of small working groups of colleges and employers, who will make recommendations to the stakeholder advisory group. The MCNZ has also been monitoring the Medical Board of Australia’s response to Revalidation, now known as the Professional Performance Framework.

The MCNZ will update stakeholders once the groups have been established, and we will inform you of any progress.
