Through expert presentations, participants will gain practical insights into the assessment of acute vertigo, learn how clinical incident reviews have driven service improvements in WA Country Health Service Emergency Telehealth Service (WACHS ETS), and examine real-world cases that highlight the importance of early recognition, timely escalation and appropriate transfer of time-critical illness in rural and nurse-led emergency departments. The session will commence with findings and an update from the ETN CPD survey.
This interactive session is designed for emergency physicians with an interest in telehealth, rural emergency care and clinical governance, providing practical lessons that can be translated into everyday practice.
Part 1: Vertigo: A Clinical Obsession – Assessing vertigo can be challenging. Dr Pascal Gelperowicz presents a case of vertigo and tips and tricks to assess this symptom from a distance.
Part 2: HALO & VMER – Clinical incident review outcomes shape how care is delivered. Dr Justin Yeung presents some initiatives at WACHS ETS bringing positive changes to emergency telehealth delivery.
Part 3: The right patient, the right transfer, the right time: two lifesaving transfers – Dr Tatiana Lowe presents two cases that demonstrate how recognising subtle red flags via telehealth and making the right transfer decision at the right time can be lifesaving.
Part 4: CPD update – A brief update on the pilot CPD pathway addressing the learning needs for FACEMs in emergency telehealth.

Justin has 30 years’ experience in the health sector, both in regional and metropolitan health services. Justin's clinical background is as a specialist emergency physician, and he has clinical management, leadership and project implementation experience in both place-based and virtual care.
Dr Tatiana Lowe, FACEM, Medical Director for My Emergency Doctor
Tatiana is a FACEM and Co-Director of Emergency Medicine Training working in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. She served as the HETI Network Director of Training for Northern Sydney for 20 years, and has a special interest in emergency education. Tatiana joined My Emergency Doctor in 2021 and now leads the Medical Leadership Group, where her insights and leadership contribute to the strategic direction and excellence of their medical initiatives.
Dr Pascal Gelperowicz, FACEM, Education and Information Lead for Victorian Virtual Emergency Department
Pascal is an emergency physician who has worked in the virtual emergency department for the last four years. He likes to tackle difficult topics, focussing on human interactions, particularly as they apply in the virtual setting.
In the past, Pascal has held roles as a director of an emergency department and a director of emergency medicine training. He lives in Melbourne with two teenagers, who, to date, remain sane and non-rebellious.
