Revised Program Training Requirement	Details of how this variation affects your training
TS4 Maintenance	Any trainee who is part way through a Late Phase Advanced Training maintenance period on 5 November 2023 will have their maintenance period restart from 5 November 2023 and Regulation G will apply. Trainees whose six month maintenance period is reached on 5 November will still have this period reviewed by a TPR panel as per Regulation B and then be transitioned following that review. After which Regulation G will apply.
TS4 – Elective	If the trainee is transitioned to TS4 and no Discretionary time has been completed, the TS4 Elective is required, and TS4 site and other requirements will apply to the TS4 elective. If the trainee has partially or fully completed Discretionary time, this will be credited to the Training Stage 4 Elective requirement.
M&M Presentation	Credit applies if Discretionary time has been completed.
Critical Care - Adult ICU Only	If the trainee has completed the Critical Care requirement, they receive full credit for this even if it was completed in a Paediatric ICU. Trainees who have partially completed this requirement will receive partial credit. If the Critical Care Requirement has not been started it will be required as per Regulation G. Moving forward all training to meet the critical care training requirement that is completed in an ICU must be completed in Adult ICU only.
Non-ED placement	Can be completed at any stage prior to Fellowship. Credit may apply if completed fully or partially.
Online Modules: ACEM Core Values	All transitioned trainees must complete the ACEM Core Values module to be eligible for Fellowship. Trainees who have completed the ACEM Core Values module prior to the transition will have this credited towards this requirement.
Paediatric Emergency Requirement (PER) PER WBAs 3 x Mini-CEX 3 x CbD 2 x DOPS	If the paediatric requirement has been completed, then full credit is given. If the paediatric requirement has not been started, then Regulation G applies, and this requirement can be completed up until Fellowship regardless of which Training Stage the trainee is transitioned. The trainee does not need to complete the PER to sit the OSCE examination. If paediatric requirement is partially completed, then the Paediatric Logbook will be required with cases completed to date credited, but the Portfolio DEMT Comment will not be required. Moving forward all remaining paediatric cases must be in an ED accredited for the PER only. PER WBAs are required, with the number of PER WBAs dependent on the number of cases that are still to be completed at the point of transition: 200 – 249 cases to complete = 5 PER WBAs ED only 250 – 299 cases to complete = 6 PER WBAs ED only 300 – 349 cases to complete = 7 PER WBAs ED only 350 – 400 cases to complete = 8 PER-WBAs ED only In March 2024, The Council of Education (COE) approved a change in the PER-WBA requirements for transition trainees. It was decided that for transition trainees with less than 200 paediatric logbook cases to complete at the time of transition will no longer need to fulfill the requirements of PER-WBAs. However, these trainees must complete the remaining paediatric logbook cases to be marked as having completed PER requirement. Completion of this requirement doesn’t require a review by the Trainee Progression Review panel. This decision was determined because a sufficient number of PER-WBAs are required to complete an assessment by the Trainee Progression Review Panel. The Council of Education agreed that for trainees who are required to complete only 4 or fewer PER-WBAs, the data gathered from these assessments was not sufficient for a fair and appropriate review for progression and determination of whether a trainee may have achieved the standard for the Paediatric Emergency Requirement. It was agreed that at least five PER-WBAs would be the minimum needed. There are no age requirements (i.e., 200 cases less than 5 years and 200 cases 5 – 15 years) for transitioned trainees, however the 100 triage 1, 2, 3 (Regulation B requirement) will apply to all. If a 3 month Paediatric-ED placement has been completed prior to transition, then only 200 cases will be required for the logbook.

Do I need to complete my training in a pre-approved TS4 accredited site? What if I am in maintenance?

Trainees in Late Phase Advanced Training who will be transitioned to Training Stage Four or Training Stage Four Maintenance, are expected to complete any of their remaining training in a TS4 accredited training site.

However, at the time of transition, those trainees who already have a confirmed training position or are mid-placement at a site not accredited for TS4 training, will have this honoured. Once that placement ends, any further placements must be in a site accredited for TS4 training. Trainees are encouraged to enter all placements that have been confirmed into their training portal as soon as they are known, even those that are confirmed for 2024.

I will be in Cohort B7 at the time of transition as I still need to complete Late Phase Core ED training. Will the EM-WBAs I have completed during Late Phase be carried forward post transition and what EM-WBAs do I need to complete when I am assessed for Training Stage Four?

I have an ED or non-ED training placement confirmed post transition that would have been certified towards Discretionary time or Maintenance time in the old program. Can I still do this placement even if it is not pre-approved for TS4?

If trainees have a training placement that was confirmed prior to transition this will be honoured and this placement will be certified towards the TS4 Elective. All placements after that placement ends must be in pre-approved TS4 sites and placements, including if a TS4 maintenance period is required.

WBAs are required for Discretionary time completed in ED placements, will they be required or assessed as part of the TS4 Elective if I complete this in an ED?

No, if a trainee is being transitioned to Training Stage Four and they need complete the TS4 Elective as they did not complete discretionary time prior to transition, they will not be required to complete any EM-WBAs for that period even if in an ED. If a trainee has completed EM-WBAs during a discretionary time period, these will not be carried forward and will not form part of a TPR panel review for Training Stage Four.
At the time of transition, I will be in Late Phase Maintenance? What are my requirements post transition?
Any trainee who is part way through a Late Phase Advanced Training maintenance period on 5 November 2023 will have their maintenance period restart from 5 November 2023. Trainees whose six month maintenance period is reached on 5 November will still have this period reviewed by a TPR panel and then be transitioned following that review.
- Trainee A started a six month Late Phase maintenance period from August 2023 in a full time placement, they would be expected to be reviewed for that period at the end of Term 4 (February 2024)
- Trainee A will be three months into that period on the 5 November 2023.
- Trainee A will have that six month maintenance period restart from 5 November 2023 and will then be reviewed at the end of Term 2 (May 2024).
- Trainee A should still complete any ITAs or WBAs for the period between August 2023 and November 2023.
I am planning to sit the 2024.1 OSCE and it will be my last training requirement before I become eligible to apply for election to fellowship, will I transition to the revised FACEM Training Program in November 2023?

Trainees who have met all other training requirements except the OSCE and intend to sit the 2024.1 OSCE examination, may have their transition to the 2022 program delayed and can remain on the old training program until the results are published. This will be done in consultation with the trainee.

If a trainee is unfortunately unsuccessful at the examination they will then be transitioned to the 2022 FACEM Training Program. Trainees who are successful will not need to be transitioned.
