This is a paid voluntary position in alignment with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency remuneration model. The committee meets up to four times per year. Meetings generally require a time commitment of approximately three hours, although some meetings may be scheduled for a longer duration. Members are also expected to review and consider papers out of session, as required.

ACEM is the not-for-profit organisation responsible for training emergency physicians and advancement of professional standards in emergency medicine in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. ACEM has over 4600 members and over 3200 trainees undertaking one of the College training programs. The College’s mission is to promote excellence in the delivery of quality emergency care to all our communities through our committed and expert members.
About the ACEM Foundation
The ACEM Foundation’s purpose is to support our philanthropic work, including funding a range of grants, scholarships, and sponsorships centred around four core pillars:
- provide opportunities to undertake emergency medicine research endeavours;
- provide opportunities to improve and develop emergency care in low and middle-income countries;
- encourage and support Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Indigenous doctors to become emergency medicine physicians; and
- encourage, support and promote practice, research and education of sustainable emergency medicine and climate health.
About the role
The committee is seeking a community member who brings a strategic, whole-of-organisation view of philanthropic income and the integrity and independence of judgement to provide external, independent perspective to the committee. The ideal candidate will have:
- Understanding of the regulatory and governance environment for charitable giving in Australia such as ACNC obligations, the Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) Code, or equivalent professional and ethical fundraising standards.
- Experience contributing to fundraising strategy and income diversification across a range of income streams.
- Governance experience on a board, foundation or fundraising committee, including sound judgement on conflicts of interest, donor confidentiality and the ethical stewardship of charitable funds.
- Broad expertise/experience in governance processes, including of not-for-profit boards or committees
The following are desirable, but not essential:
- Professional experience in philanthropy and fundraising for, or governing, a health, medical research or medical college foundation.
- Formal qualifications or professional accreditation in fundraising or philanthropy.
