Don’t miss out on your chance to impact the future of emergency medicine education!

Do you often find yourself uncertain of how your College works? Or maybe questioning decisions made at College level? Now is your chance to gain that understanding and contribute to the future of emergency medicine education.

The College is currently inviting applications for a large number of positions on a wide range of entities (committees, sub-committees, panels, and groups) under the governance of the Council of Education (COE).

“Getting involved in any aspect with the College is really, really good in terms of understanding the systems and the process,” said FACEM Dr Sheree Conroy, Standard Setting Panel and Non-Specialist Training Committee member.

Members and trainees are welcome to apply for multiple positions. The entities of COE that you might consider applying for are:
  • Accreditation Subcommittee- Through established College processes, the subcommittee determines whether training sites provide the support and resources required to train our trainees and thus suitable for accreditation. Members on this subcommittee will help conduct inspections, review all inspection reports, advise COE whether sites are suitable to train our trainees, and provide sites with suggestions on how to improve.
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee- This committee oversees the ongoing education of Fellows after they graduate from the FACEM Training Program and in addition to the other available positions, has a permanent position for a “new Fellow”.
  • CPD Reference Groups- These are groups under the CPD Committee that look after specific projects for the College, including the New Fellows Program, the ACME course and the Best of Web resource.
  • Primary and Fellowship Examination Working Groups- These review and write the questions for the Primary and Fellowship Examinations. There are five groups, one for each of the types of exam questions: Primary Examination Select Choice Questions, Primary Examination Viva Questions, Fellowship Examination Select Choice Questions, Fellowship Examination Short Answer Questions, and Fellowship Examination OSCE Questions.
  • Examinations Subcommittee- In addition to other available positions, there is a permanent position for a “new Fellow” on this subcommittee, which looks at the processes and quality of all College examinations to ensure they are of the standard needed to assess FACEM Training Program trainees.
  • Non-Specialist Training Committee- This committee looks after the certificate and diploma training programs of the College. The training of high quality doctors to a Certificate and Diploma level is set to become increasingly important in the years ahead.
  • Specialist International Medical Graduate (SIMG) Assessment Committee- This committee is responsible for overseeing the assessment of overseas-trained specialists in emergency medicine who are seeking recognition as a ‘specialist Emergency Medicine physician in Australia or New Zealand. There are also positions available on the Panel of SIMG Assessors, which undertakes the interview component of the assessment of SIMG applicants.
“You have the opportunity to play a key role in the ongoing growth, expertise and development of ACEM and emergency medicine in Australia and New Zealand,” said Dr FACEM Barry Gunn, ACEM Censor-in-Chief.
