2017-18 Australian Federal Budget Overview Health Portfolio

This year’s Australian Federal Budget outlined a range of health measures, with a particular focus on primary health care and mental health.

The important role of primary health care in chronic disease management has been recognised by the Government, with the lifting of the freeze on Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) rebates. ACEM is also pleased to see additional funding provided to Primary Health Networks to facilitate a more integrated approach to palliative care provision.
However, these measures will not necessarily reduce demand on our emergency departments.
