ACEM welcomes rollout of behavioural assessment rooms in EDs

The peak body for emergency medicine in Australia and New Zealand has welcomed the Victorian Government’s funding commitment for behavioural assessment rooms in emergency departments.

Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) Victoria Faculty Chair Dr Shyaman Menon said: “Any workplace, including hospitals, should be safe, and free of the threat of violence.

“These rooms will help doctors and nurses do what they are good at – delivering excellent patient care – without the distraction or fear of being physically assaulted.”

ACEM President Professor Tony Lawler said: “State health ministers across the country should follow suit and keep the protection of healthcare workers front of mind.”
