In-Training Assessment

How it works

An In-Training Assessment (ITA) is an ACEM Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA) which involves a trainee being assessed by the placement DEMT or Supervisor at a point in time during the trainee’s placement.

The trainee is assessed against the learning outcomes outlined in the ACEM Curriculum Framework, based on the DEMT or Supervisor’s cumulative knowledge of the trainee, collated during the trainee’s placement with the DEMT or Supervisor.

The DEMT/Supervisor rates and gives structured feedback on the trainee’s overall performance during the placement. The completion of the ITA is expected to require a total of 20 minutes, with five to ten minutes of feedback. The DEMT/Supervisor may select the mode of feedback as appropriate for the individual context.

The DEMT/Supervisor leads the process and works within the set of standard ITA dates. The ITA dates are aligned to the standard 3/12 term dates, separately in Australia and New Zealand.

Note: a secondary set of ITA dates (out of cycle), at the mid-point of each 3/12 term will be set for completion of ITAs for trainees who commence a placement outside the usual term dates.

In-Training Assessments:

  • automatically generate two weeks prior to the due date
  • are due to be completed by the ITA due date
  • generate as per cycle with reference to training placement dates
  • If an ITA is created prior to the two-week due date, by the DEMT/Supervisor, it can be completed and saved only. Submission can only occur two weeks prior to the due date.
  • If an ITA is created by the DEMT/Supervisor, an automatic ITA will not generate because an ITA has already been created.
