Specialists in Training

International Medical Graduates in a recognised emergency medicine specialist program in their country of training or origin may be eligible to work in Australia.

This pathway is for applicants who are recognised specialists or specialists-in-training (SiT) in their country of training or origin, the latter category comprising those who have passed specialist examinations and/or are no more than two years from completing specialist training in their country of training – normally up to one year but in exceptional circumstances can be extended to two years, and includes opportunities for exchange fellowships.

Application Process

Please review the information on the Medical Board of Australia website for information regarding the Specialist in Training application process.

A formal application with supporting documentation will need to be sent to the College by the Australian hospital/employer. The application is to be submitted on the prescribed Medical Board of Australia form AAMC-30.

There must be comprehensive documentation concerning the Australian training program, the nominated supervisor/s and evidence that the training program is appropriate for the applicant.

Candidates will need to apply for and be granted registration to practise medicine in one of the States or Territories of Australia before filling the SiT position.

The College charges a fee for SiT assessments
