In line with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) legislation, please be aware that as of 1 March 2024, the Diploma of Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine, Emergency Medicine Diploma and Emergency Medicine Advanced Diploma will be known as the Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine Training Program, Intermediate Emergency Medicine Training Program, and Advanced Emergency Medicine Training Program, respectively. ACEM is currently in the process of transitioning all documents to reflect this change. Meanwhile, any reference to "Diploma" and "Advanced Diploma" within this webpage and documents linked on this page should be replaced with the new title.

Please note training programs offered by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine are vocational training for graduate medical practitioners and are not higher education awards in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework. Which Program is For Me?

All the information you'll need to work out which program is the right one for you.
Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine

Pre-hospital and retrieval medicine (PHRM) is rapid response medical care provided to seriously sick and injured people.

Emergency Medicine Certificate

This qualification is suited to and intended for PGY2+ doctors working as part of the team in an emergency department with senior assistance when needed.
Intermediate Emergency Medicine Training Program (IEMTP)

This qualification is suited to and intended for PGY2+ doctors working as part of the team in an emergency department and builds upon the knowledge and skills gained during the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC).
Advanced Emergency Medicine Training Program (AEMTP)

This qualification is suited to and intended for PGY3+ doctors working as part of the team in an emergency department as a senior decision maker, provides clinical support, and builds upon the knowledge and skills gained during the Associateship in Intermediate Emergency Medicine (IEMTP) .
Transition from FACEM Training

If you withdraw from the FACEM Training Program, you have the opportunity to receive recognition of prior learning for your training and complete either the ACEM Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC), Associateship in Intermediate Emergency Medicine or Associateship in Advanced Emergency Medicine.
